Welcome

Play.
Work the chimeric interplay between organisms.
The slightly skewed version of truth.  The possibilities.
If there is an opening that provides ambiguity or a question, that is what we seek.
Follow the inner knowledge that pulls.
The quest-
Manifesting glimpses of that deeper realm.

About

Erica Shetzline grew up in the Oregon
woods, just inland from a tidal estuary.
She is influenced by the natural vocabulary of the Pacific Northwest, where she learned the tidal push and pull, the endless drip of water, wind carved shapes, and sudden shifts of landscape by other grander elements.
The colors- contrasting greys blacks and softer brighter red browns, greens and blues. And Moss everywhere! Wet mushrooms and wild clingy lichen shapes. Kelp forests just below the waves- all were taken in and then later, numerous woods horse rides, these too, digested.

Overlay this with a childhood shadowed by her Novelist parents, David Shetzline, and M.F. Beal, and numerous studio visits watching dedicated local artists at work- Best known perhaps are the visual images of;  Rick Bartow,  Judith Sparks,  Jack Wennstrom,  and Drake Deknatel.
Later on, She traveled abroad visiting Gardens, museums and architectural sites across Europe, Britain, and Ireland.

Later still, Community colleges and University of Oregon, studying the Human Form and arts education under the tutelage of amazing artist Teachers;  Paul Buckner,  Matthew Buckner,  Laura Alpert,  Dora Nutella, and Ron Graff.

Erica Shetzline owes much to contemporaries;  Olga Volchkova,  Ellen Tykeson,  Jud Turner,  Jill Davidson,  and Lee Imonen, among others, for their excellent encouragement and examples of consistent dedication to the crafting of beauty in the visual field.

Her works are in numerous private collections.
Most recent projects include “Poseidon’s Other Son”,  a mixed media sculpture for public installation at the Lane County Courthouse.
In March 2023 she coordinated and collaborated on a private burial and memorial service she calls “The Lost Art of Dying”.

Sculpting, whether in clay, or site manipulation, is her main creative mode of expression. As a designer, she often plays with the interface between human manipulated and altered natural areas to develop more harmonious “naturalized” environments. She also Draws, paints, and works with horses.
